VHD Vaccine

Postby Kareen » Thu Jun 11, 2009 3:02 pm

There are two VHD vaccines available, the most popular one being Cylap but I find this causes side effect and a local reaction, ask your vet for Lapinject, it seems to be a kinder vaccine. I have used on many rabbits with no reactions at all :)

some things to look at

I ordered Lapinject for my buns, but when I asked about it no one seemed to believe that there were more reactions with Cylap :(

I would never use Cylap again! I went to vet today for vaccine but she only had Cylap, so I am waiting till Monday to get Lapinject.

My bun fonzie had a terrible reaction to cylap, he was swaying from side to side and was subdued like he had a flu or something, i took him back and he was given more meds (pain killers and anti-inflamatories) :-[ The worst part of the "reaction" was that he developed a big bald patch on his back this was at the site of the injection! This took around 3 months to go back to normal!
My other wee girly bun lilly was given lapinject 2 weeks ago (on the advice of Karren!!) and has had no problems whatsoever.
I spoke to the vet about this and although they had lapinject in stock they don't often use it as the bottle contains 5 doses and if they don't use it in 24hours it has to be thrown out!
So i think it costs the vet more, thats why they don't offer it!? It cost me around the £15 i think for the lapinject, which i'm sure was approx the same as cylap!

Poor bunny :( Non of my buns have had very serious side effects from Cylap but it is hearing stories like that that made me switch to Lapinject.
